About Me

I'm a New Zealand based software developer who loves working on challenging problems. I originally graduated from the University of Otago, afterwards I've been working as a full stack developer, both remotely and in-person.

Past Experience

(2024-01 — ). Ecosuite (NY, United States) is a New York based SaaS company that provides data management and analytics for renewable energy assets.
- Lead development of our backend services, reliably aggregating and serving timeseries data to our customers ingested from both physical devices and third party APIs. Written in Golang.
- Lead development of our LLM powered knowledge base tool. Allows users to automatically gain insights from their long technical specifications and verbose legal documents. Written in Golang.
(2022-03 — 2024-01). Ecogy Energy (NY, United States) is a New York based developer, financier, and owner-operator of distributed energy assets across the United States.
- Lead development of virtaulized VEN service, entirely OpenADR compliant. Used in demand response systems. Reliable and low latency control of assets in response to grid events. Written in C++.
- Lead development of tool used to query and download timeseries energy data for machine learning. Used by Stony Brook University. Written in Typescript.
- Maintained and improved frontend and backend of asset management system. Working with React, Typescript/Javascript
(2022-01 — 2022-03). Mill Software (Melbourne, Australia) is a software company specialized in working with telecommunication companies.
- Worked on a project to improve network performance using DPDK. Allows for better throughput and lower latency on virtualized workloads.

Systems Programming	C, C++, Rust, Golang	I have a lot of experience with writing safe and performant code in systems languages. Armed and dangerous with UBSAN, Valgrind, and GDB. My feet are bullet-free.
Web Development	HTML/CSS, Javascript/Typescript, React	I've primarily worked with React with both JS/TS on the frontend, and with Node on backend services.
Databases	Postgres, SQLite, DynamoDB, variants of K	I have experience with traditional relational databases using SQL, and with using DynamoDB in production. I greatly enjoy using K for timeseries data.
Miscellaneous	Linux, Git, Docker, Cloud computing	I've exclusively used Linux and Git for years. I'm handy with docker, and I have experience with building and maintaining systems on AWS.
